What if only one sector is cancelled? Will I still get a full refund/be able to rebook?
Yes. Customers can obtain a partial refund or refund the whole trip.
Will the return flight be automatically cancelled if the outbound is cancelled, even if the inbound flight is operating?
The inbound flight will remain in the system, even if the outbound flight is cancelled.
What if I have a connecting flight to my long haul Gatwick or London City flight that is affected?
Customers can rebook, reroute or refund the whole booking.
Will you provide customers with hotel accommodation if they are affected by the industrial action?
We will be communicating with people in advance to advise them of any impact to their flights.
If a customer’s flight isn’t operating, we would ask that they please don’t come to the airport.

What if a customer has connecting flight which has been cancelled but the onward flight has operated?
Customers can book on to another flight as soon as possible. They can also claim a refund, or reroute.
What if I’m transferring onto other carriers?
If customers are unable to connect with another carrier due to the industrial action, we will rebook where there is availability and agreement with another carrier.
Will you compensate customers for the cost of the other carrier’s flight if they are unable to take it?
Customers who are affected by the industrial action and unable to connect with another carrier who wish to claim back the cost of that flight are asked to write into our customer relations team.
If the outbound British Airways sector is cancelled, will the return be protected if I choose to go on another carrier?
Yes..
What is the refunds process on restricted tickets?
If customers have a restricted ticket they will still receive the full price of the ticket back (all taxes, fees and charges included) in the event that their flight is cancelled because of strike action.
What’s the best way for me to check whether their flight is operating?
We will be updating batraveltrade.com/speedbirdclub.com/ba.com with the latest information and we recommend you check a flight’s status via the arrivals and departures link on the site or via the GDS.
We will also be proactively contacting our trade and corporate partners and as many of our direct customers affected as possible via email, SMS or phone.
Can customers book with another carrier or train operator and get their money back if they are worried about getting to their destination?
Customers who are booked to fly who wish to change their booking can do so to another BA flight to the same destination in the next 355 days.
If a flight is cancelled because of the strike action, we will offer the option to refund the ticket, rebook on to a different flight to the same destination or reroute the journey on another BA flight or other carriers (subject to availability and agreement. Please contact British Airways directly to rebook onto other carriers).
We will not pay for tickets on other forms of transport.
What about your subsidiaries?
All our subsidiaries such as BA Cityflyer and franchise/codeshare will continue to operate as normal.
The cabin crew for these airlines were not part of the ballot process.
Can I book on to a subsidiary?
Yes, subject to availabilitt.
If customers are travelling in business class to New York. Can I be rebooked on to LCY – NY?
Yes.
What if a customer has paid for a specific seat? Will they be able to get their money back?
Yes. They can do this online at ba.com.
What if customers have paid for excess baggage. Can they get their money back?
Yes. There’s a webform on ba.com that customers can fill in to claim their money back if their flight has been cancelled and they’ve paid for excess baggage.
Will you refund taxes, fees and charges?
Yes, we will refund taxes, fees and charges on flights that we have cancelled.
Will you refund the fuel surcharge?
Yes, we will refund taxes, fees and charges on flights that we have cancelled.
WHAT CUSTOMERS WILL GET ON BOARD
How can you operate any flights?
We are planning to operate some longhaul flights using some BA aircraft, and we will be chartering a number of aircraft from a range of UK and European based airlines to assist with our shorthaul (UK and European) operations. This is know as ‘wet leasing’.
Are these other airlines safe?
We have worked successfully with several of these airlines in the past. All of them have to comply with the strict safety and operational standards laid down by Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and any requirements specified by British Airways.
How will I know if I’m on a chartered aircraft?
When we publish our planned flying schedule in we will confirm which charter company is operating which service on behalf of British Airways.
What will I get on a chartered aircraft?
These charter flights will operate using the existing BA flight numbers and will offer a similar level of onboard service to that of normal British Airways shorthaul flights.
What will I get on a BA aircraft?
Some flights will operate with a simplified onboard service.
COMPENSATION
Are you going to have to pay out compensation?
We view the industrial action as 'extraordinary circumstances', which means that BA is not obliged to the pay compensation as per Regulation 261/04.
BA will of course continue to comply with its passenger care obligations (e.g. provision of meals, hotel accommodation etc. as appropriate) as per that Regulation.
GENERAL Q&AS ABOUT THE INDUSTRIAL ACTION
How can you let this strike go ahead?
We are very disappointed by Unite’s threat of what would be completely unnecessary industrial action.
As during the past year, we remain available to talk with Unite at any time about all other issues facing the business and the cabin crew community.
British Airways cabin crew are rightly renowned for their professionalism and skills, and we want to continue to recognise that, despite the record financial losses we are facing.
The changes we have made to the numbers of crew onboard our aircraft do not alter individual terms and conditions.
As a result of the changes more than 3000 cabin crew will have their requests for part time working granted and a further 1000 have taken voluntary redundancy.
We believe that the changes to crew numbers onboard are fair and reasonable given the record losses that British Airways is facing.
This ballot result has created a worrying time for our customers and our staff and we will do all we can to support them in the weeks ahead.
We will regularly be updating ba.com and contacting booked customers directly.
What about the High Court ruling? Doesn’t that have an impact?
We are extremely pleased with the High Court ruling that the modest changes we made to onboard crew numbers on flights from Heathrow were reasonable, did not breach crew contracts and can remain in place.
Unite’s central demand over the last three months has been that we reverse these changes, despite the severe financial impact this would have on the company at a time when we are facing a second year of record annual losses.
Unite’s arguments as to why the changes should be reversed have been considered in great detail by the Court – and rejected.
Unite brought this case to Court. We believe it should reflect on the Court’s decision rather than impose an unnecessary strike on the travelling public.
Talks continue under the auspices of the TUC.
The court ruling does not change the ballot process.
Why should customers ever fly with you again?
We would like to apologise in advance to any customers who become affected by Unite’s industrial action.
We will do all we can to minimise the disruption and we will communicate regularly with affected customers.
What’s the dispute about?
We are bitterly disappointed that Unite has chosen to undertake industrial action.
British Airways is facing a second year of record losses and we must reduce costs to ensure long-term survival, as many staff have already accepted.
We are giving crew the option to work part-time or take voluntary redundancy and are increasing pay for the vast majority of crew by between two and seven per cent.
There are no reductions in terms and conditions for existing crew, who remain the best paid in the UK and have some of the best terms and conditions of any global airline.
The new Heathrow rosters are the equivalent of what have operated at Gatwick for years, with union agreement, and with great feedback from customers.

Does BA have a contingency plan?
Yes.
We have had to wait for the result of the ballot. Now we are in the process of putting our plans into action.
