Bulgaria's Privatisation Agency said on Wednesday it planned to sell this year at least 51 per cent of the new national flag carrier, Balkan Air Tour, which replaced insolvent Balkan Airlines.

The agency has prepared a sell-off strategy that envisages selling another 25 per cent of the new airline on the fledgling local bourse after the privatisation of a majority stake, its spokeswoman Anna Ruscheva told a news conference. The privatisation strategy has yet to be approved by the government.

"The likelihood of attracting a foreign airline as an investor is not very big. That's why we also plan to allow financial investors or consortiums of strategic and financial investors to take part in the privatisation," Ruscheva said. Balkan's liquidation is part of a Transport Ministry plan for the new carrier to inherit the old company's assets, destinations and staff, but not its debt.

The ministry won permission from national aviation bodies of 16 states in Europe and the Middle East for the new airline to operate destinations previously covered by Balkan.

Balkan Air Tour now uses a government-owned Tupolev TU-154 aircraft and two Boeing 737-300's, which Balkan Airlines had leased from Lufthansa.

V první vlně se má jednat až o 51%, což je velmi neobvyklé, ale pochopitelné, protože pokud dotyčnému kupci nepředají kontrolu nad společností, pak to nikdo na světě nekoupí. Dále je pak na řadě balík 25% akcií. Vše ještě musí povolit vláda a také se musí najít nějaký ten kupec. Je možné, že to bude i nějaké konsorcium. BAT má v současné době povolení létat do 16 zemí v Evropě a na Blízkém východě.
Létá ovšem jen se třemi letadly a vláda plánuje převedení "aktiv", vyjma dluhů bývalého Balkanu, na tohoto dopravce. To se však zdá být spíše přítěží než nějakou výhodou pro potencionální kupce, takže se musíme nechat překvapit.
